Whether it’s a reading, meeting or hands-on program: during BOOKtober, libraries and bookshops in Bruck-Mürzzuschlag and Leoben invite you to a variety of events for young and old throughout October.

Exhibition “Diversity of Education” | October 1 to 30, 2026
During opening hours, the library team will guide you through the exhibition on request.
Hidden object book “With Fini & Ferdi on a treasure hunt” | October 1 to 30, 2026
During opening hours, there are quiz questions about the book and templates to color in the children’s section of the Mürzzuschlag public library. The children will receive a small gift as a thank you when they hand in their colored pictures. The colored pictures will be copied in color and displayed on the windows of the library (supervised by the library team).
Reading “What we are missing” | October 13, 2026 | 4:00 pm
The author Claudia Treiber-Dörfler reads from her book “Was uns fehlt” (What we are missing) and invites you to a special literary evening.
Senior Active Day | October 20, 2026 | 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Memory training, coordination exercises and sitting dance, incl. lunch snack: Good mood & motivation. Contribution towards expenses: € 10,-, to be paid at the beginning of the event! – Registration required!
Halloween Special | October 29, 2026 | 15:00 to 18:00
Scary special exhibition of the creepy, wizard and witch department. Of course there is also trick-or-treating! (If you like, you can come dressed up)

Leoben City Library
Reading: “Splitterschreie”/ “Dunkelnah” by Roman Klementovic | October 1, 2026 | 6:30 pm | KulturQuartier Leoben, City Library
Roman Klementovic, born in 1982, lives in Vienna. He loves beer in pubs, punk rock and SK Rapid. His thriller “Immerstill” was filmed for the ORF and ZDF LandKrimi series. His thriller “Wenn das Licht gefriert” was directed by Andreas Prochaska and brought to the big screen with Adele Neuhauser, Erwin Steinhauer and Fritz Karl in the leading roles.
Lecture: “The Habsburgs” by Katrin Unterreiner | October 20, 2026 | 6:30 pm | KulturQuartier Leoben, City Library
Katrin Unterreiner’s lecture is dedicated to the multifaceted history of the House of Habsburg. Unterreiner knows how to convey historical facts in a vivid and lively way by combining personal anecdotes, social backgrounds and new research findings.
In her lecture, she paints a differentiated picture of historical personalities and at the same time dispels widespread myths. In doing so, she succeeds in both informing the audience professionally and appealing to their emotions.

Hornbert has the hiccups. But it’s no ordinary hiccup! Every time the unicorn hiccups, something scary turns into something sugary-sweet … What a disaster! Because Halloween is just around the corner and Scary Land is set to spread fear and terror. Now there’s no time to lose! And who better to help than Rufus? The little pumpkin knows all about sweet and sour emergencies. Can Hornbert and Rufus save Creepy Land?

The reading morning with craft corner is all about favorite books and creative ideas. Children are invited to bring their favorite book and spend a varied morning together.

St. Barbara Library
Theater and craft afternoon: On the trail of the Grüffelo | October 9, 2026 | 3:00 p.m. | St. Barbara Library
The Grüffelo by Axel Scheffler and Julia Donaldson forms the basis. We accompany the Grüffelo and the mouse to the forest animals using hand and stick puppets. Afterwards we will make an animal mask.
Story hike: Does the big, bad mouse really exist? | October 16, 2026 | 3:00 pm | Wartberg train station
We hike to the ruins of Lichtenegg Castle. On this hike, the children will meet the Grüffelo child, the mouse and the animals. The ruins are open to the public on this day!

Screen poet Ralph Turnheim | October 28, 2026 | 6:30 pm | Simon Mühle
Program: “The Song of the White Zombie” (The Birth of the Undead). The first zombies were young and beautiful! The artist has dug up the first zombie film and fearlessly revived it – with a live dubbing that gives the forgotten monster masterpiece WHITE ZOMBIE from 1932 a completely new lease of life. Screen lyricist Ralph Turnheim translates the poetic horror tale into black-humored Viennese verse.

Kapfenberg City Library
“On a treasure hunt with Fini & Ferdi” | October 14, 2026 | 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
“Fini & Ferdi” from the regional hidden object book visit Kapfenberg! We are looking forward to an afternoon together with you. There will be puzzles and crafts together with Sonja and Ruth. For children between 5 and 7 years (pre-registration under 03862/22501 DW 1611)

“Die Sennerin der Schneealm” brings together memories, experiences and stories from the life of Leni Bayer, who spent many decades on the Schneealm. Together with Mathias Kautzky, a touching book about life on the alpine pasture, close to nature and full of impressive encounters, has been created.
