Around 6.000 young entrepreneurs ventured into self-employment in Styria in 2022. Festmeter, pro aqua and Birdshades are only 3 examples of the numerous remarkable start-ups from eastern Upper Styria. They epitomise great entrepreneurial diversity, ranging from monitoring forest stands to sustainable water treatment and disinfection to high-tech glass films against bird strikes.
Are you also full of ideas and action-driven? Great! This entrepreneurial spirit is highly welcome and strongly supported in eastern Upper Styria.

Brucker Wirtschaftsentwicklungs- und Stadtmarketing GesmbH is an independent platform for business start-ups, relocations and business expansions. The team helps you to navigate the administrative channels and to find the right contact person for your planned project by cooperating with property owners and estate agents.
The Location Management of the municipality of Kapfenberg is the service centre for businesses in Kapfenberg. It handles the municipality’s business development agendas, supports newly founded companies, also in dealing with official procedures, arranges business premises and much more.
KAIT-Kapfenberg Accelerator & Incubator for IT is the incubator for start-ups in the IT sector. Support is provided in the form of modern infrastructure, advice and opportunities to exchange ideas with lecturers, graduates and students at UAS Joanneum Kapfenberg. Founders also benefit from an extensive network of regional and international companies. Information can be gathered and networks expanded at events such as the Open Day, the Long Night of Research, business and ideas competitions, the Cyber Security Network and much more.
The Centre for Applied Technology is the start-up centre of the Technical University of Leoben in cooperation with the municipality of Leoben. Its main focus is on researchers and innovative personalities from the university environment. It supports founders with an academic background with a selected network of experts. The aim is to help overcome the hurdles of starting a business and to provide a link between the university/research and industry together with the Technical University of Leoben’s product development centre.
The municipality of Kindberg offers various subsidies and grants in the economic sector. The municipality office will be happy to inform you.
The city of Trofaiach’s economic development activities focus on the historically grown city centre areas in order to keep them competitive and repurpose empty spaces that have developed in recent years.
The city of Mürzzuschlag supports and promotes businesses and business relocations with great commitment by way of networking, new concepts for the city centre and ongoing activities. The WGM – Business Park and Start-up Centre Mürzzuschlag offers interested companies modular, expandable office space with modern communication equipment.
The platform of the start-up service of the Austrian Economic Chambers is the first address for founders and start-ups, with comprehensive background information, tips and helpful business tools.
The SFG offers various packages to fund and finance start-ups – depending on the sector and maturity of the start-up project.
